Terms of Use
These are the terms you accept by using CubingHQ. They are short and written to be readable, because terms nobody can read protect nobody.
1. Who runs this
CubingHQ is operated by an individual based in Portugal, contactable at martimcubing@gmail.com. It is a personal project, not a company, and it is free to use. Full operator details are on the About page.
Using CubingHQ means you accept these terms. If you do not, please do not use it. They sit alongside the Privacy Policy, the Cookie Policy and the Refund Policy, which are part of them.
2. What CubingHQ is not
CubingHQ is an unofficial fan project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by the World Cube Association. Nothing here is an official WCA result, an official ranking, or an official interpretation of the WCA Regulations.
Simulated competition rounds are practice. They have no standing of any kind. If you want an official result, enter a real competition — the WCA website lists them.
"Rubik's Cube" is a trademark of Spin Master. We use it descriptively, to say what the site is for. We claim no rights in it.
3. Acceptable use
Battle rooms include a live chat, and chat visible to strangers needs rules. When using any part of CubingHQ that other people can see — room names, display names, chat messages, algorithm submissions — you agree not to post:
- Harassment, threats, or abuse directed at anyone
- Hate speech, or content attacking people over race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation
- Sexual content, or any content sexualising minors
- Content that is illegal, or that encourages illegal acts
- Spam, advertising, referral links, or automated flooding
- Personal information about yourself or anyone else — full names, addresses, schools, phone numbers, social handles
- Malware, phishing links, or attempts to compromise other users
- Impersonation of another cuber, of a WCA official, or of CubingHQ
Speedcubing has a young community. Please write in a Battle room as though a twelve-year-old is reading it, because one probably is.
4. Moderation
We may remove any content, clear any room, and block access, at our discretion and without notice. We do not pre-screen what people post and we do not monitor rooms continuously, so content may be visible for a period before we see it.
If you find something that breaks section 3, report it to martimcubing@gmail.com with the room name and roughly when you saw it. We will act on it as quickly as we practically can.
You remain responsible for what you post. Content you submit stays yours, but by posting it you grant us permission to display it on the site as part of the feature you used.
5. Accounts
You can use almost all of CubingHQ without an account. If you create one:
- You must be 13 or over. If you are under 13, ask a parent or guardian to contact us rather than signing up.
- Give an email address you actually control, and keep your password to yourself. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
- One person, one account. Do not create an account in someone else's name, or link a WCA ID that is not yours.
- You can delete your account at any time by emailing us, and we will do it without asking why.
We may suspend or delete an account that breaks section 3, or that is being used to abuse the service. Where we can, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
6. Your solve data lives on your device
Solve times, sessions and settings are stored in your browser, not on our servers. We cannot recover them for you. Clearing your browser data deletes them permanently, and so, sometimes, does a browser deciding on its own to reclaim storage.
If a session matters to you, export it. We mean this sincerely: it is the single most common way people lose data on sites built like this one, and it is entirely preventable.
Account details, friends, Battle rooms and AI Coach sessions are stored on our side. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what, why, and for how long.
7. The AI Coach
The Coach is a training aid built on a large language model. Treat it the way you would treat advice from a stranger at a competition who has looked at your times: often useful, sometimes wrong, never authoritative.
- Its output is not professional coaching, medical advice, or physiotherapy. If your hands or wrists hurt, see a doctor, not a chatbot.
- It can be confidently wrong. Do not follow a plan that hurts, and do not treat its numbers as measurements.
- To produce an answer we send your solve statistics to an AI provider. If you upload a video, the video goes to Google to be analysed. Both are described in the Privacy Policy.
By uploading a video you confirm that you have the right to do so, that it is of you, and that anyone else who appears in it has agreed. Do not upload footage of other people — especially other people's children — without their permission. We delete the file after it has been analysed.
8. Content you post
What you write, post or upload stays yours. So that the site can work, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and transmit it for the sole purpose of running the feature you used — showing your message in the Battle room you sent it to, sending your video to be analysed, showing your display name to your friends. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we are required to keep or that sit in ordinary backups for a short period.
We will not sell your content, use it to advertise, or use it to train an AI model.
9. No warranty
CubingHQ is provided "as is". We do not guarantee that it will be available, that scrambles will always generate, that the timer will be accurate to any particular tolerance, that WCA data shown here is current, or that your data will survive.
Timing in a browser is subject to the browser, the device and the operating system. Do not treat a CubingHQ time as equivalent to a Stackmat time under competition conditions. It is close enough to train against and not close enough to argue about.
10. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of CubingHQ, including lost solve data, lost time, or reliance on information shown here. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
11. Third-party data and attribution
CubingHQ shows and builds on work by others:
- Competition, ranking and profile data from the World Cube Association public API
- Scrambling and 3D puzzle rendering by cubing.js
- Algorithm sets referenced from SpeedCubeDB
- Interface conventions inspired by csTimer
If you own material you believe is used here without the right permission, email us and we will remove it promptly. We would rather hear from you than not.
12. Advertising
No advertising is running on CubingHQ at present. We intend to carry it to cover hosting, and this section sets out the terms that will apply when we do.
We do not control which specific ads are shown, and showing an ad is not an endorsement of the advertiser. Please do not click ads you are not genuinely interested in — it does not help us, and it puts the account at risk.
Advertising and analytics cookies are only set if you agree to them. The Cookie Policy lists every one, and the cookie settings link in the footer reopens the choice at any time.
13. Money
CubingHQ is free. There is no checkout and no subscription, and nothing on the site can charge you. A paid tier is being built; if it launches, the Refund and Cancellation Policy applies to it, and it will be published before anything is for sale rather than after.
If you are ever asked to pay for CubingHQ somewhere that is not this site, it is not us. Please tell us.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do. Continuing to use CubingHQ after a change means you accept the revised terms.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Portugal, and the courts of Portugal have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in the EU, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of your own country of residence, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of the country you live in.
Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer, or your rights under data protection law. Where a term of ours conflicts with a right you have by law, the law wins and the rest of these terms carry on.
